FOSSIL AMMONITES ENTIRE 1
Ammonites in the broad sense, or Ammonoidea, are an extinct subclass of cephalopod molluscs. They appear in the fossil record during the Devonian and disappear shortly after the Cretaceous-Paleocene crisis. They were characterized by a univalve shell more or less coiled of which only the last lodge was occupied by the animal, the other lodges being used to control its flotation; the siphon connecting them is in the external (ventral) position, along the wall, whereas it is axial in the nautiluses. Their fossil shells are excellent chronological markers. Their size ranges from a few millimetres to more than 2 meters in diameter.

FOSSIL PETRIFIED WOOD SMALL PIECES 1
Petrified wood (from the Latin root petro meaning “rock” or “stone”; literally “wood turned into stone”) is the name given to a special type of fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation. Petrifaction is the result of a tree or tree-like plants having transitioned to stone by a mineralization process that often includes permineralization and replacement. The organic materials making up cell walls have been replicated with minerals (mostly a silicate, such as opal, chalcedony, or quartz). In some instances, the original structure of the stem tissue may be partly retained. Unlike other plant fossils, which are typically impressions or compressions, petrified wood is a three-dimensional representation of the original organic material.
The petrifaction process occurs underground, when wood becomes buried in water-saturated sediment or volcanic ash. During replacement, the plant’s cell walls act as a template for mineralization.  Most of the organic matter often decomposes, however some of the lignin may remain. Silica in the form of Opal-A, can encrust and permeate wood relatively quickly in hot spring environments. However, petrified wood is most commonly associated with trees that were buried in fine grained sediments of deltas and floodplains or volcanic lahars and ash beds. A forest where such material has petrified becomes known as a petrified forest.

FOSSIL SEPTARIA POLISHED
Septarian concretions or septarian nodules, are concretions containing angular cavities or cracks, called “septaria”. The word comes from the Latin word septum; “partition”, and refers to the cracks/separations in this kind of rock. Some websites incorrectly derive the term from the Latin word septem, meaning “seven”. Cracks are highly variable in shape and volume, as well as the degree of shrinkage they indicate. Although it has commonly been assumed that concretions grew incrementally from the inside outwards, the fact that radially oriented cracks taper towards the margins of septarian concretions is taken as evidence that in these cases the periphery was stiffer while the inside was softer, presumably due to a gradient in the amount of cement precipitated.
